Introduction to Enzyme Catalyzed Reactions
An introduction to enzymes. Living things depend on enzymes to control the reactions that keep them alive, and here students run four experiments with invertase, amylase and papain that show how enzymes differ in function, activity and specificity. There are materials for 10 groups, with a teacher's manual and student study guide masters to copy. You also need deionised water, a hot water bath, a ruler, test tubes, a rack, test tube tongs and a permanent marker. It supports NGSS MS-PS1-2 and HS-PS1-4 (core ideas PS1.A and PS1.B, the crosscutting concepts of structure and function and of energy and matter, and the practice of developing and using models). It is non-regulated for shipping. Read the safety data sheet before use, wear gloves and eye protection, and keep the container tightly closed.
