Wireless Photogate Sensor
A wireless photogate for accurate timing. Students measure velocity and acceleration of objects in free fall, rolling objects, collisions and pendulums without needing to know the object's geometry. A single laser gate also detects objects passing outside the sensor's arms; this requires a pen laser emitting visible light, sold separately. It works with compatible graphing and analysis software that offers live data sharing for demonstrations, bar graphs, histograms, FFTs and categorical plots, synchronised video replay, a library of more than 45 ready-made sample experiments and user-defined curve fits, suiting both classroom and remote learning. A long-life rechargeable battery keeps it ready for wireless use, its charge can be checked in the app, and it connects through a USB cable or wirelessly with nothing else to buy. Specifications: infrared source peaking at 880 nm; gate width 77.5 mm; internal gate separation 20 mm; about 10 mm from the internal gates to the bottom of the arms; gate LED off when unblocked and on when blocked; 650 mAh Li-Poly rechargeable battery giving about 10 hours of continuous logging per charge and about 300 full charge cycles (several years, depending on use).
