Introduction to Microbiology, Bacterial Growth and Staining Kit
A microbiology kit for growing, staining and studying bacteria. Activities include staining cells to study bacterial shape and Gram staining to tell whether bacteria are Gram-positive, Gram-negative or both. Supply Bunsen or alcohol burners, forceps or clothespins, microscopes with at least a 40X objective, 70% isopropyl alcohol or 10% bleach and distilled or deionised water. It covers scale, proportion and quantity, structure and function, developing models and planning investigations; instructions included. For ages 13 and up with adult supervision. Ships under the DOT small-quantity exemption (49 CFR 173.4) for domestic road or rail only and carries a California Proposition 65 warning. Follow the SDS for the stains and handle cultures with aseptic technique. NGSS alignment: performance expectations MS-LS1-1 and MS-LS1-2; core ideas LS1.A, PS1.A and PS1.B.
